Question: Why does everyone want a battleship so much? Eh? I mean sure they are powerfeull, combined with an indy or 3 they can mine like a mofo but really, if people set less materialistic goals in EVE they would have WAY more fun.
I have only 2 materialistic goals in EVE, one of which is personnal and one of which is for my corp. The only ship I really really want is an Opus Luxuary Yacht, I mean im assuming they will have mediochre defences and absolute pish offensive capabilities but that dosent matter to me. I mean sure PvP combat is great fun, but its not all this game has and Id rather be having fun chatting on the recruitment channel than killing people, for whatever reason.
The goal for my corp is a simple one, a small station in 0.0 space that caters for all the less savoury people in EVE, if its possible it wont accept non corp members that have a higher thn 0.0 sec rating. Other than those 2 things, all my goals in eve are player interaction related, I want to be th forst corp to become a major player in the booster trade, I want to be a figure of mystery, admiration and hatred, not because I can kill lots of people, but because I enable others to do so by selling them ships and equipment, as well as providing n00bs with an unhealthy supply of boosters >:)
I belive that if people stopped focusing on becoming the biggest and best corp at everything and instead of diversifiying specialise, as well as simply forgetting about owning a battleship and just played the game to have some fun, they would be far less bored. Sorry this is getting long winded but Im in rant mode now:P
Lets have an example. Player A and Player B both join the game on the same day. All player A wants from the game is the best ships and equipment so he can be "u83r l331", all player B wants from the game is the chance to have a laugh and chat with some cool people while he plays. Player A joins one of the many many diversified corps that do a bit of everything, then begins to sit about on corp mining ops all day mining his ass off, his heart set first on tha MOA, then on that Scorpian etc etc. Player B joins a moderately sized specialist corp, say traders or NPC hunters. Player A spends all his time mining, trading and doing the most boring, repetitive things in EVE because he wants his big fancy ship beofre he does anything else. Player B spends his time chatting, doing a bit of this, a bit of that, agents, mining, trading in his spare time, does some stuff for his corp. now undoutably player A will get his big cruiser first, player B will probably still be flying frigates and Indies, but then A dosent want to take his shiney new ship out until he can afford to lose it and replace it easily, so he spends more time mining and trading for ISK, whereas B can afford to lose loads of frigates and indies, so he has some fun hunting pirates and running blockades for kicks. Now after around a month, A(with help from his corp) has probably got his battleship, all the fancy weapons he could need and then guess what, thats right he is still scared to use it incase he loses it. B however has now progressed to cruisers, and although he has to be a little more careful than when he was only flying frigates, he can still be far more reckless than A could when he had his big cruiser. Player A now spends all his time on the boards whining about lack of content in the game, and why CCP should ignore fixing bugs just so that he can do fun stuff(then come back and complain more when he loses his BS to a bug:P). Player B however sees this thread and sais "look, if you just take it slow and dont focus on material gain, you will have way more fun!", then is promptly flamed by everyone and called a carebear or fanboi because he has a different, more entertaining way of playing the game.
Question: In this senario, who is the winner? A who has a battleship and great weapons, but is scared to use them and has no fun anymore because all he did was repeat the most boring parts of the game over and over, or B, who may not have the big ol bastard ship, but he has plenty of ISK to have fun in smaller, less expensive ships, does many things to keep him amused and has a corp that is full of people who want to do the exact same thing as him(since he joined the specialised one).
Slow down, dont play the game to be the best, play to have fun and bne the better later on, because those that strived to be the best the fastest left because of self-induced boredom. ----------------------------------------------- Shady trader, fence and gentleman extrordionaire.
